A Sad Day - Favorite LFS is closing
After 52 years in business Capitol Aquarium, a landmark LFS in the Sacramento area, is closing. They were one of my favorite fish stores. It will be very sad to see them gone.
Sacramento Press / Capitol Aquarium closes after 52 years
That's sad. Especailly when it's because they can't keep the business going because of the economy. Overhead, utilities, rents stay the same or go up while the populations incomes go down due to layoffs and closings. Not a good mix :(
I moved an hour and 1/2 away from a great fish store and struggle to find anything good in this new area now. I feel your pain.
I am fortunate in that there are about 3 or 4 other very good LFS in my area. But Capitol was the largest store. And they were the first one I went to when we first moved to the Sacramento area in 1990. I remember bringing my kids there when they were very young to feed the Koi and play with Moby, their giant Gourami.
I went up there today and the doors were closed. But they had a bunch of tanks sitting out in the parking lot they were giving away for free. So I did pick up a 20 gallon , although I need another tank like I need a hole in the head. LOL
That is a real shame! So many businesses are closing their doors due to the economy and it always seems to be the ones we really like and frequent. There aren't that many LFS's in my area and the only one I buy my fish from, which is a small family owned business is closing soon for the same reason.
Nice pickup on the free tank jeaninel, perhaps you could sell that 20g. on craigslist or somewhere and make some money on the deal. It's always handy to have a spare tank, but they usually don't stay empty for long.
