ok so ive been debating on which id rather get in my 90 gallon tank. either a black ghost knife or a bichir (senegalus). please let me know what youd pick
Bichir: I have never kept either but I think the Bichir will be much more fun to have, have more character and I think they look better and are more "pleasing" to the eye.
They are always out and about, roaming the tank. The ghost knife will hide, and you won't see him near as much. Also, the character of the bichir is very cool.
Also, besides the Senegal, if you happen to see an Ornate, that one is really cool looking.
haha, you don't even have to teach a bichir to eat out of your hands, lol. If they smell it, they eat it, even if it's from your fingers. I've fed mine chunks of shrimp that way.

BOTH. 90 gallons should be plenty of room for both. Just make sure you get a good enough moonlight that you can watch the tank after dark, because that's when the knife will be active. Get a tank of feeder guppies going, stick a couple in there, and watch 'em disappear after lights out.
Bichirs will have big wars?:? I have Senegals and they aren't exactly aggressive. While they are predators, they do not happen to be territorial compared to most other bottom dwellers.
As far as i know yes but i would also get the opinions from other membersif the clown needs are met and they are large enough and they do go slow and can live for 40 years. Still my word is not absolute it would be wise to get a second opinion.
Well fed and given enough space, Clown loaches can get like a foot long. If I were doing it, and I wanted Clown Loaches, I'd get 7 clown loaches and that's it. That said, With Clowns in the mix, I'd go with the bichir. They'd be active enough to make a BGK stressed, I think.
/ I think when I get a Bichir, I'm going to name it John. It will be nice to have a John Bichir under water.
Well I will play the opposer here just for the sake of it.
I have 2 Skunk botia loaches which are notoriously hostile, territorial and don;t get along with other fish. I have kept them with loaches, swordtails, guppies, neon tetras and glo lite tetras and have never lost a single fish to them. I also feed them small snails and have had them in a tank with large snails and they did not kill any of the larger ones.
In other words wether it is fish or dogs, sometimes you can count on them acting the way expect sometimes you can't.
After doing more research on them all I can find that would support my choice of the Bichir is the fact they are less prone to stress from other fish where knifes really like to be able to hide and be left alone unless they want to come out.

I agree..... Bichirs don't hide much at all. Oh, and did I mention that I had 5 Skunks? lol. The more the merrier, lol. They are like tiger barbs, the more you have, the less likely they are to pick on other fish, and pretty much chase each other around, rather than chasing other fish.
Knives just hide too much. They may look cool, but when do you really ever get to watch them, unless you have nowhere for it to hide and increase it's stress levels.
