Aquarium Sizes for fish at Petsmart
I was looking over some of the info on fish at Petsmart, where I'm planning on getting my cichlids. I was looking at the aquarium sizes for fish... and some of the were ridiculous! I know that Petsmart isn't a good place for advice, but they recommend a 55 gallon for a 24 inch pleco.
Considering most of their fish are juveniles... are they just saying the right size tank tank for a juvenile fish, or are they actually suggesting such small tanks for a fully grown fish?
Just trying to do some research before buying from there. :)
I tend to think that they are recommending the size tank for the juvenile fish, because otherwise it makes no sense. Or they can just be completely unintelligent, either way don't follow what they suggest.
Their tank recommendations are sadly for full grown fish... they are just ignorant when it comes to the real needs of fish. And I dont think they really care, as long as they make their money!!!
Also, they are usually incorrect on their "info" cards when stating the possible full grown size of the fish, sometimes they are only off by an inch, other times they are off by INCHES!! :o
My best advice if purchasing fish from Petsmart, as I often do (good prices if you know what you are looking for), then go in and look at what your local petsmart offers, write down or remember the fish species you are interested in that their card claims will fit your tank, then come here to TFK and go to the fish profiles and find the truth...then go back and purchase what will work for you. :)
Thanks for the advice!
I knew that their info could be off- but I didn't know it was that bad!
