Danio has a concave stomach!
So I have four danios of the glofish type. My orange one has always had a very round stomach and then today we just noticed that it is concave. There is a dent in it's stomach and if you look beneath the fish, you can see a darker spot in the dent. I am not sure what happend...the fish is not eating a lot, but it is swimming okay. This is so strange, what is wrong with it??
Here is a pic:
I had a similar issue with my glofish. Sorry to say, all mine died. I don't think it was a glofish-specific problem. I had a parasitic worm (camallanus) that I think came into my tank with some guppies. Once danios stop eating, that's a bad sign. Mine would take the food, but then spit it out again.
Ya the glofish has stopped eating. :(
Is there any way to treat this kind of parasite?
And thanks so much for your help, no one seems to know exactly what is wrong.
Except I have already had 3 glofish die and none of the other ones had any damaged skin like this one. They all became lethargic, did not eat, and moved their mouths rapidly open and closed. This specific fish is moving it's mouth and not eating, but it is still swimming and has that dent.
Thanks for your help!
Sounds like the same problem I had, but you can get those symptoms from a variety of diseases. Mass-production fish breeding has caused lots of problems for us fishkeepers. The store doesn't mind, since we'll buy $20 worth of meds to save a $4 fish! :-?
I can't say for sure that you have the exact problem I had. See this thread for how I treated my tanks. http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/t...-advice-69258/
BUT usually you do not want to blindly treat a tank for a disease. That can cause other problems. You may want to try a more easily administered product like Jungle's Parasite Clear. I have never used it, but it treats a variety of internal parasites.
Good luck and don't let this type of thing discourage you. It's unfortunately pretty common and no reflection on your ability to keep fish :-)
Also - a belated welcome to the forum!
Thank you so much for you help! I'll be sure to look at that thread.
Check that thread I referenced for a recent post, there is a link to another site that sells medicated flakes that might work...
Again, be very careful with any "shotgun" medicine approach.
