breeding my bristlenose plecs ???
i have a male and a fermale , and the male has cleaned out a "half coconut shell" in my tank, the shell has and old plant pot in it and he has cleaned that aswell, the female looks quite fat i think but any time she goes near the male or the "den" he has cleaned he chases her away ofter resulting in her missing a small amount of her tail fin, is there anything i can do to encourage then to breed ???
Are they in a spawning tank all their own or in the 120 liter with the other fish.......
With my BN breeding pair.......I can trigger spawning with lots of good fresh greens...usually fresh blanched spinach and some of my homemade food that has shrimp and garlic added to increase protein and then I will make a large water change using cooler water......the male will let her go in the cave and lay the eggs and then runs her off......I also have noticed that she will get a red tint to her stomach and vent area along with the enlargement or more rotund look right before they spawn
Have you checked inside the cave....they may already have eggs...especially if he never leaves the cave except for a quick meal and looks like he is fanning something inside the cave.....
thats what he is doing :):):)
Good news and bad news, he was guarding eggs, my tank is covered with normal coloured plec fry and few albino plec...... Bad news my kribs are having a late supper :(........ I caught 1 and put it in my breeder net with the fully fry , there very fast iv turned lights off hoping the kribs dnt find them in the dark :):):)
