Snails vs Sponges

I want to know if anyone has any experience with snails eating sponge filters. Any type of snail, any type of sponge filter either store bought or otherwise.

I have heard of snails eating sponge filters before, though it's my opinion that they are eating little bits of food on it and accidently getting the sponge. I have a sponge filter in one of my tanks and they crawl all over it but it's never gotten any smaller. It's an Aquaclear that I cut to fit.

That's what I had hoped because I want to put a filter in a 2.5 gallon for the egg clusters but I don't want an elaborate setup. I have a sponge filter and it would be really easy to set up the small tank for the clusters and keep the humidity super high.

Little pieces here and there who cares. As long as they don't have it for breakfast I don't care. At $9 each locally for the smalles tones they aren't cheap.
