I'm considering getting a striped Raphael catfish. Do these eat algae? I've made sure all the other things (suitable tankmates, water conditions, etc.) are ok for my tank, but my main thing is, I need some algae eaters. I don't want a pleco because as juveniles, they can't clean much of the tank, and as adults, they're huge, so you can't keep enough of them as juveniles (or even half-grown) to clean the tank.
I understand the tank will never be fully self sustaining, but some help with the algae (like on leaves and rocks) is something I really need.
Will raphael catfish do the job?
Also, if I get enough ghost shrimp, will they clean the tank (some)?
Raphael can grow to around six inches and are largely carnivores.
