Substrate under rocks or none?
I want to put a piece of driftwood in the center of my tank and carpet the bottom with J. Moss. I want one spot/area to have the gravel exposed but everywhere else I was thinking of tying the Jmoss to rocks. The question is, do I need gravel underneath these rocks or can I just put the flat against the bottom of the tank?
(note: I don't think i'll have anything but J.moss in the tank plantwise.)
Rocks can sit on the bottom of the tank, but I would recommend some fine gravel just to ensure there are no areas where fish can get in and be trapped. Food will also find its way into spaces. I find the best method is to put the gravel in, then take the rock and carefully maneuver it around, pushing it gently into the gravel.
