What type of tank is best?
Not sure if this post belongs in here or in product reviews, but I will try it here.
My mother-in-law wants to get another tank - either a 30 gallon Eclipse tank or a 29 gallon BioCube. She's having difficulties choosing between the two. What are the pros and cons of each, and which does everyone here recommend?

What type of setup and/or fish is she looking to put in it? I prefer using All-Glass or Perfecto aquariums for most freshwater setups.

She wants a school of tiger barbs and a school of cherry barbs. She's got a nasty red-tailed black shark that attacks anything and everything, and several people have suggested putting him in a tank with barbs because they are swift enough to elude the little bully.
She likes the idea of the all-in-one enclosures, so that is why the BioCube and the Eclipse appeal to her. She already has an existing 46-gallon bowfront, so she wanted to try something new for the second tank.

both are really good systems and she would be pleased with either. Personally I think the biocube is a little bit of a step-up from the eclipse but the eclipse is a little more "user friendly". Both are great companies that put out quality products too. You mentioned a 30 gallon eclipse though...are you sure it isn't a 37 gallon? There is a 37 gallon eclipse which is very common and is just an eclipse hood on a standard 37 gallon show tank (same footprint as a standard 29 gallon tank but taller). If it is the 37 gallon...thats a nice looking tank that shows well while the BioCube is a deeper tank.

Thanks, mHeinitz57. I just emailed her a copy of your descriptions. It might be a 37 gallon Eclipse she was looking at and I may have just mis-remembered. I know she'll be thrilled to have the feedback; I think she's getting the new tank this afternoon.

Seaclear makes a 30 gallon tank that is compatible with the eclipse top. MOst of the eclipse tanks are acryllic until you get to the larger ones. The 37 gallon is a glass tank but the top is made in a way that you could put it on any standard 37 or 29 gallon tank...which is nice. I think if she wants something easy to clean that is easily accessible, she would enjoy the eclipse more.
