Not really sure if this is the right place to post a question for my tank but here goes anyway and I really appreciate any help. I have a 20 gallon tank, first tank. I didnt really know which fish would be compatable with each other so when I bought them I read the description if they were aggresive, semi aggresive or not aggresive. I have a chinese algae eater which has been in the tank for about 6 months now and I just recently brought home a blue gourami and put him in the tank. Since then the algae eater has been chasing the gourami constantly. Im not sure if theres any way to get these two to get along or if they just are not compatible. Thank you for any help. Carl

CAEs are known to be somewhat aggressive. You will need to remove the gourami.

Welcome to Fishforum.com.

CAEs are indeed aggressive as they mature. They have a tendency to suck the slime coat of your fish and your gourami will easily be harmed by that. Remove either the gourami or the CAE but I would remove the CAE if I were you for two reasons: a. size-They grow to almost 10 inches despite being slow growers and b. temperament-They will likely harass any future fish introduced in that tank.

So far as I can tell, the only thing that CAEs mix with is sticky rice, ginger, and garlic.

Lupin summed it up, but a CAE will outgrow a 20 in any case.

What size were your CAEs and how long have you kept them?

He only gt to about 4 inches and for a little while was with zebras, black skirted tetras and siscortailed rasporas. He was normally the smallest fish in the tank. Maybe He was yeller.lol. No he really didnt hide either i dunno maybe a freak but what is wrong with that?

Yours is very young that is why it is not exactly aggressive as we expect them to. As they reach maturity, they become more aggressive and eventually develop a taste for slime coat.

Well he died a couple of months back sudenly(wounder if he was the 3rd victom of the clown knife) but there were no marks on him? :BIGhmm:
