Weird Light Set up!!?!?
Hi, hope this is in the right place as wasnt sure :(
I got a new tank yesterday, Well it isnt new second hand and it has a strange light set up
Well the lid has two removable parts at the front a small removable panel and a larger one at the back, inside the back one there is two Y shaped clips I figured to clip the light into...so I did, then the wires from the light go into a weird block (Pictured) and there is a switch on the block then there is a wire coming from that that plugs into the wall,
This block gets REALLY HOT Is this normal? There is also a slot inside of the lid (under the back removable panel) I was sure this block slots into so it is out of the way? But this would be silly as then surly it will be even hotter?
PLEASE help do you know what this block is? Never seen light set up like this? there is a small white button you can turn on the block too???
All confusing PLEASE leave a reply. THANKS xx
PS MY TANK LOOKS YELLOWISH BUT IT ISNT FOR SOME REASON IT IS CLOUDY? :(
It is fairly normal for it to get hot because I will guess it is a standard incandescent light. To be honest, the whole setup as far as the lid is just too much and would be better to replace it with a simple glass top, about $12, and a new light from the hardware or other store with some kind of flourescent bulb. Any wattage will do because you won't need a lot for crayfish.
Most of all, keep asking questions. We are here to help and to try and help you get things right so you have less frustration in the long run.
Also, how big is the tank? 1 crayfish will be ok and maybe a couple of the smallers ones so if you could tell us what kind of crayfish that would help also. They can be very territorial.
Looks to me like some sort of external ballast. Change tops and get a new light.
Thanks for your help :) Will my crayfish be ok if I stick with this light set up? as I am kinda broke right now :( I wasn't sure what type my crayfish are, someone said as i am in the UK they think i may have cherax quads, thats what they worked out from my description, do you know much about this type? thanks xx
