Clown Pleco not acting like a clown pleco?

Our clown pleco is acting very peculiar for what I've heard a Clown Pleco acts like. He won't touch wood (we have 2 huge pieces), he will come out in the daylight, play with the barbs, (not chasing or attacking, he will play peek a boo....) he ignores the siamenses, lets them eat his cucumber (sometimes from his mouth), isn't terrified of my hand in the tank when I go in, and has tried feeding from the cucumber straight from my hand. o.O He looks like some of the Clown Pleco images I have seen, but not quite. He's fully grown at 3 and a half inches, and he's about 2 years old. He almost looks like a really little sailfin, actually...

Anyone have any ideas why he's acting like that? Maybe he's not even a Clown? The pet store we bought it from had him so long they didn't even have it on file anymore and they sold it to me for 20 bucks.

Without photo it is very hard to say.
Description of the fishes activity reminds me of maybe Candy stripe Pleco that looks very similar to the clown pleco but is more active.
Could very well be a number of other species as well.

Based on the images I've seen, he sure LOOKS like some of the Clown Plecos I have seen.

He looks a lot like this one, just a bit less tan:

But that's almost identical...
