I have been noticing that the new leaves on this sword ( sorry I don't remember what kind it is?) are coming up this light purplish color. Is this normal or is the plant lacking something? One leaf is starting to turn green. So I was kinda thinking this normal but I am not sure?
Thats a crypt, not a sword, purple leaves are common
Hmm. I'm not convinced it's a crypt... Definately could be, but I'm really on the fence.
Anyways, even if it's a rubin sword, purple is normal.
thought it looked like this: Plant Details But there are lots of swords with that structure so i could be wrong...
I didn't order a crypt soo unless they sent me one by mistake, I am think it is a Echinodorus sp. "Oriental Sword" That is what thatpetplace.com called it.
Your probably right then, i can see purple leaves on the picture of the plant on thatfishplace's site so its probably normal growth, might be the difference between aquatic and terrestrial forms.
LoL I read the profile they gave, I actually remember reading it now and apparently forgot about it but here is a what it says:
"Oriental Sword plants have much narrower leaves then most of the other sword plants and are also more delicate. The younger center leaves will have a reddish pink coloration to them and will change to green only as the plant matures."
So I guess it is normal and it seems to be growing okay then by that?
Indeed. It's doing what it should be doing.
If it was labelled as "Oriental" sword, then it likely is Echinodorus "Oriental" which is a plant that appeared during in vitro culture of Echinodorus "Rose" by the Oriental Aquarium plant nursery in Singapore, hence its name. It appeared in 1994. New leaves are vivid pink and somewhat transparent, and turn to dark olive green as they mature. It remains smallish for this genus, about 15cm/6in in height and is thus very suitable in the foreground.
