Unfortunately, Tropica doesnt sell to the US :-/ I would totally be ok paying more to get healthy plants that are more likely to survive in my tank...

Excellent article, it would also explain why sometimes buying cheap cuttings on aquabid will have great growths and potted plants in the store does not.

A plant retailer in the US told me the reason Tropica plants are not available in the US is the Department of Agriculture. They will not allow any plants into the US if the roots are not visible. And Tropica plants are potted in that rock wool inside a plastic frame pot. I can appreciate the concern with plant pests hitching rides on terrestrial plants, and I suppose aquatic too. And I guess "unpotting" all of them is out of the question for customs officials.

Well thats annoying, but there are still lots of plant sold in the US in the rockwool pots that do not have visible roots. Are those planted after being imported?

Possibly, I don't know. There are many aquarium plant places inside the continental US.
