How long does it take for a Bolivian Ram to mature?

Hello all,

I have a pair of young Bolivian Rams and I was wondering how many months it takes for this fish to become an adult, breeding age, or also when they will show their most colour.

Thank you,
Catherine

They will spawn fairly early, assuming you have a pair. Sexing this fish is very difficult until they mature to the point where the male's caudal fin filaments lengthen, and the ovipositor can be easily seen; the females is thicker than the males.

Their interaction is sometimes a clue to sex in immature fish, as males will constantly "push" each other around. Females do this less, and a pair less.

We have a photo of a pair over a clutch of eggs in our profile, click on the shaded name Bolivian Ram to go to the profile. There is also more info there.

Byron.
