Goldfish and Guppies: Why it is Not good to mix

Hi, I currently have 2 fancy golfish with 2 guppies. Pls convince me on why i should not keep these togheter, currently they are living perfectly well togheter. If you have experience with this mix, pls tell me. I will be getting a 75 g tank and i am thinking i will have 6 goldies fancy and 6 - 10 guppies (though i could transfer these to a 10 gallon tank if they had problems with each other)

are they being kept in a heated set up?

zfarsh 04-29-2011 04:34 PM

nope, standard room temp

Guppies are form tropical waters... Eventually they will suffer health problems because of how cold the water is. Guppies really need the temp to be 78 at least.

I keep goldfish and guppies together and they get along just fine. Also I don't use a heater because it's naturally warm where I live so the water stays at about 77F

About? Or exactly?

Temperature variations of 5 or more degrees in 24 hours can cause damage if they happen regularly...

There are never any variations of 5 or more degrees, ever, Let alone 24 hours

Not all goldfish require cold water. Fancy goldfish are fine with the ideal temp of 72-78 degrees Fahrenheit. That's tolerable enough for standard guppies but not delicate fancies.

The only reason you cannot combine both fish is because goldfish easily outgrow them and could gobble them up. So if you do not mind losing your guppies to them, then go for it.
