What's good a good and balanced diet for corys? I was wondering what's a good balance of diet for corys. Currently I'm using Hikari sinking wafers; I tried aquarian advanced nutrition sinking shrimp pellets, but my panda cory acted a little odd after eating it. I occasionally feed them frozen blood worms, but other than that, its just been the sinking wafers. I was wondering if anyone knew of some good diet plans and what not. Thanks! |

Blood worms and shrimp pellet's are offered at night ,or early morning while the tank is completely dark lest the other fish get to the food first. |
I see. My corys don't seem to like the shrimp pellets that much as its a bit hard for them to chew. Haha. The Hikari brand that I use disintegrate super fast, so they just munch it up really quickly. In terms of more specific nutrition though, is there anything I should keep a lookout for when checking the back of the bag at the ingredients? |
I used to check protein, but now I use certain brands that others on this forum have recommended as good nutrition. Hikari, Omega One stand out. Both make sinking foods. Variety is key. I use a rotation of 4 different sinking foods daily, plus once a week frozen bloodworms. Currently I have Omega One shrimp pellets, Hikari sinking wafers, Nutrafin Max tabs, and a veggie wafer made I think by OSI [comes in a package, I dump them in an old food container for ease of handling and I've tossd out the package, I will know it when i see it in the store I shop at]. I use the Nutrafin because it is clearly the favourite of all bottom fish; my loaches go absolutly nuts on the days this drops in, not sure why, they really "click-click-click" [the sound they make] on it. And the corys love it too. Byron. |
I would suggest a quality pellet as the main food, with the other foods people have listed in moderation. I agree with Byron that Omega One and Hikari, I also feed all my fish NLS. |
Does Hikari make sinking pellets? All I've seen are the sinking wafers. And I'll pick up a pack of nutrafin when I visit a LFS tomorrow. Thanks for the tips! |
Ok, so I went out and bought some tetrafin tetramin tropical crisps at petsmart, and boy oh boy, do my corys LOVE it. As soon as I swished them down to sink, my corys went crazy! Ate up a palmful of the crisps in under 5 minutes. I've never seen them go at something that fast before; pretty darn crazy! So add another list of foods, the tropical crisps by tetra fin. Pretty good stuff. |
