Sand

Is it ok to put marine sand in a freshwater tank?

well if it's from a salt water tank and just rinsed and moved the bacteria in it will die in the fresh water so that will cause spikes in your cycle. Also it will buffer your water making it more difficult if you were trying to keep a low ph.

Which type of marine sand? I use estes marine sand in all my freshwater tanks and there is no problem. If your talking about live bagged sand then i wouldn't use it because of the possible buffering and its way more expensive.
