Discus Problem Ok, so i am ordering some dicus fish and i have just purchased a new 55 gallon tank. But i want it to go through the nitrofication process before i put them in. They are babies and only 2 in. each. Can i put four 2 in. discus in a 10 gallon tank for around a month? |
well it would be bad to put them in an uncycled tank that's for sure. If it's your only other storage area then just watch the water quality big time. It's going to be cramped for sure, you're going to have to watch them for stress. If they get to stressed for to long then the parasites that naturally live in their intestines that their immune systems keep in check will no longer remain there. They could get in the blood stream and lead to hole in the head disease. If this is your only option try to speed up the cycle of your other tank if you can. The quicker it's ready the better. |
Don't understand why you wouldn't wait to order them until the tank is ready. Sounds risky to me. I have 6 discus and people say they are hard to keep but I have never had any issues and we've had them for 6 months now. They are doing great. But you definitely need to cycle the tank first.... |

Will he hold on to them for you until you're ready? Or you can grab some filter media from him to speed your process along... |
Why not just put your filter on your 10 in the 55? Those two small discus should be fine and it shouldn't take long for your other filter to pick up its bacteria. |
