Hi Rick! Welcome to TFK. We are glad you decided to join us and glad you're getting back into the hobby. 8 grandkids to help?? I think I see a bubbling pirate's chest and Diver Dan in your future. That or Nemo's erupting volcano, lol.

crack me up! You are probably right Kymmie.

Rick maybe figure out what you want and let the kids chose from a few items. My 8 year old nephew really loves helping me with the fish thing but I have had to set some limits. I am still paying for his "independent decision" to add Guppies to my tank as a present for me. I had Guppies coming out of my ears in no time. Teaching the kids what is and is not appropriate is the most important and can be so much fun. Fish are a great way to talk about science. It is so educational and fun.

Get some books and look at fish profiles talk about water parameters and appropriate habitat for certain kinds of fish. Adding live plants has been the most fun with my nephew. He likes to decide where in the tank they will go and really... if he picks a wrong plant, who cares. I myself stear him clear of the diver Dan stuff and tell him that is more of a toy for people and the fish are not as excited about it. We jointly decided we wanted the fish to be happy. Good luck to you. :) Can't wait to see the results.
