Help me ID this Snail Plz =) Picture included
I think this snail came into my tank along with some java moss i got from my LFS. When i first noticed him he was no bigger than maybe a 1/4 inch or less ( 1 centimeter or less)
At that time he was sneaking around in the moss.
Now he is an inch and a half long, (4 cetimeters) and only comes out at night. I almost thought he got eaten for a while but then started to noticed trails along the back of the tank eaten out of the algea.
When i turned on the lights this morning i caught him on the back wall cruising around. He has little anteanas but you cant see them in the picture.
I think he is a malaysian trumpet snail from what i could find. Can any one tell me for sure? I need to know if he is dangerous or not, i read trumpet snails can be good because they stir the substrate. As far as i can tell he is the only snail in the tank.
Thanks for your help.
no these are not dangerous. i have loads in my tank as to brought in on the plants. soon you will see many more(babies)
It is a Malaysian Trumpet Snail and is pretty harmless like most non plant eating species. Their population can explode like any other snail and you can NOT control them by removing eggs because they are LIVE bearers and do not lay eggs. You may or may not ever see more snails but a healthy population is not bad at all for a tank.
Cool, thanks for your help! I have only seen 1 snail so far but i honestly wouldnt mind having a few more if they arent harmful. He seems to be doing a good job of eating algea, and he only comes out at night so i never see him.
Again, thanks for your help. =)
