What is a Great Style for a New Tank?
You see, the closest pet store to me is Petsmart. I want to get a tank for some"semi-aggressive" fish. Here are my questions: What size tank should I get? What fish would you recommend? Is there any style I should have(gravel, furniture, plants, etc.)? Thanks for helping. If you have any guppy questions, ask me!;-)
Do you have alot of space because then I could recomend a few fish.
How much money can you spend? That can help to
Semi-aggressive fish start as common as a betta, which a 5 gallon tank set up would work for be the betta the only fish in the tank with maybe a shrimp, snail, or what not on an invert. And semi-aggressive fish go way up in size to fish that require 100+ gallons at full grown. So, what size tank do you have the room for and how much tank can you afford? How many tanks do you have now? Even a 29 gallon tank would give you many stocking options for semi-aggressive as most tetras are semi-aggressive, and also require groups of 6+.
As far as decor, a substrate of course is needed. Be it gravel depends on the fish you plan on stocking as well as your personal preference whether you go with sand, gravel, rocks, glass pebbles, or whatever else that is suitable for aquaria use. Plants also go with your personal choice as well as what species you are keeping. Also, whether or not you want to do artificial or live plants.
There are many choices available, and I can understand why you would be looking for assistance in this, however, it is up to you on what you want and can house successfully before anyone can really make any suggestions for you. Good Luck, and I will help as much as I can on this thread.
And sorry, I have no guppy questions, I usually dole out answers on them verses questions. :-D
I think you're putting the cart before the horse. As Amanda said, there are many variables among fish. The best recommendation is for you to decide on the fish you want (something that will manage in your water as Amanda also noted), then research what it needs in terms of a suitably-sized tank and what decor it may need (some fish need rocks, some caves, some wood, some plants, some sand...you get the drift). Remember that minimum tank sizes in profiles such as those on this site [second tab from the left in the blue bar at the top] are for only that species in the required number, so any additional fish species will mean a larger tank.
One will have better success if the tank, filter, and light are selected to suit the fish one wants to keep in the tank.
