aquarium size ok for large cichlid community?
Folks I have a dilemma...I have 16 beautiful s.a. cichlids including Jaguar, GT, firemouths, flowerhorns, red terrors, convicts...in a 75G right now and I'm shopping around for a bigger tank. Today I came across a 60Lx36Hx18W 170G tank for really cheap and need opinions on whether or not to buy. It's just the tank and the stand for $150-200, no filter, gravel, cover, or light. The thing that concerns me is that it has height instead of length. It's 5' long so its good but is it great for the fish I have? It's super cheap for the size but idk if I should hold out for a deal with a longer wider tank with all the accessories for more money or buy this and use the stuff I have and just sell my other tank minus the stuff I had to use for the bigger tank...HELP!

ok that is an unbeatable deal but the canopy will cost like over 80 bucks. plus new light bulbs will be expensive. but i would get it if you have enough money but it will take alot of commitment.

i'm not worried about the commitment. i'm already taking care of 2 75G tanks, 1 of community fish and 1 of cichlids, a 45G HEX with randoms i'm growing, and a 10G quarrantine tank...once i get this big tank i'll sell the 75 and 45 tanks so i only have 2 real tanks to worry about.

I think you'll find the 36" height a pain in the butt to work with. I would stick with a 6 ft tank (or an 8 ft if you can afford it) for those aggressive fish. Even then 16 aggressive cichlids is too many and you may need to re-home some.
