? about letting tank sit with water, no filtration

I put water in my 43 gal tank, added the Whisper filter and found the Whisper filter was so noisy (bought on CL with the tank) that I shut it down, and ordered a new Aqua Clear filter.

So, here's my question. How bad is it to just let a tank sit with water in it, until I can get the new filter? Will 5 days be okay? I'm not going to begin cycling until I get the filter - and I'm going to try fishless cycling this time. :-)

I'm thinking to be safe, I'll go ahead when the new filter arrives, and take 50% of the water out and add new water, but I want to make sure no harm will come from just letting a tank sit with water. The only thing in the tank are some rocks and well washed playsand.

Thoughts?

Should be fine if you haven't added any biological "stuff" like fish, food, or dead shrimp! If you are worried about the water going "rancid", 5 days won't be a problem. The stink that happens with standing water is bacteria breaking down organic matter. If it's a new tank with no fish yet there won't be significant organic matter. If you want to avoid the unaesthetic dust coating on the surface, you can stir the water a little each day, but that's not really going to make any difference overall.

Agreed - in the absence of any decaying organics, it shouldn't be any problem at all.
