I have a 36G Tall. I lost some chiclids a few weeks ago to disease but the tank is up and running fine right now. If I dont do chiclids again, what would be a good assortment of fish for this tall tank?
A community, or even ones a little agressive....not to be mixed with community.
personally I have a 47 gallon tall and I love the variety of semi-aggressive and community. I've doen cichlids and I prefer this actually. A lot of semi aggressives can be mixed with community so dont feel you are limited to one or the other. Angels look really great in a tall tank. With the wider variety you can work all levels of the tank, getting top, mid and bottom feeders. With my large canister filter and several aquatic plants, I don't even have to aerate my 47..and its like 30 inches tall with not much surface area! Angels, gouramis, loaches, redtail/rainbow sharks, schools of tetras (larger is you have angels), etc...all work well. If you don't do angels, a school of tiger barbs would look cool too.
Tiger Barbs and Angelfish are both fun. In my shark tank, the tiger barbs are always playful and let me rub their sides as they swim by. Though they swing around for a nip. :P Angel fish are just great too. Very intelligent.
If you decide to do tiger barbs, I'd recommend RTS and caves. Plants are nice, but the occupants will likely eat the things. :P
If you do angelfish, I would recommend lower level cichlids such as apistos and rams, but make sure you have a lot of plants and hiding spots for the low lying cichlids. Driftwood is also good as it will soften the water and you can use Java ferns which are pretty.
What ever you plan to do with the tank, I would make sure that the disease has been completely eradicated. Otherwise you might have another outbreak.
What are Apistos? Can't find them on liveaquaria.com
I might go Angels and Rams. What other chiclids are good? Any good for middle of tank since theAnges are high and the chiclids are low?
Thanks for al the help.
angels pretty much cover the whole tank. Since their mouths come out straight forward, I classify them as midlevel fish and thats where mine hangs out most. He scavenges at the bottom though and comes to the top when I feed so he really is all over the place. If you want a larger assortment I would skip the cichlids though. Even though angels are a cichlid, there arent a lot of other cichlids that go with them that you will find readily at your LFS. Rams are really pretty though. I would do skarks, larger tetras, rasporas, gouramis, catfish, loaches, etc. People may condemn me for this but I was bored when I kept cichlids.
apistos and rams are great there both beautiful angels are great to and to keep the gravel clean go with some kuhli loaches or some pretty corys
I would love to get a school of tetras, and 2 or 3 angelfish would also be nice. Clown loaches look cool. If I were to do tetras, angelfish and rams what else would I be able to do?
