the mystery snails the the tank eat them but there still lots...basicly how do i kill them all without upsetting the tank too much the tank contains shelldwellers and there babies are small enogh to fall victim to the hydras
You can treat them with many things but they all kill snails as well and leave the tank invertebrate hell for quite a while. A little salt is supposed to make them curl up and I would think eventually starve them to death because they can't feed but the snails would suffer also.
The best I have been able to find is that the hydras are always there but only have a population explosion with a good food source. The babies could be this source so could water fleas or copopods or the numerous other "critters" that inhabit our tanks. The best I have seen for protecting babies is too get them in a new tank where the population of hydra is either low or you can treat for the hydras and not worry about invertebrates in the tank.
I have the same problem with what I would say is litteraly hundreds if not thousands of them. The population seems to go up and down with the water condition and how many water fleas/copopods that I see in the tank.
the snails are new and are eating them on purpose(not just random grazing)with any luck they will eat most of them the tank contains no rockwork so there all on the glass and filter housing i think between the algea scraper and the snail i should at least get them down in numbers i dont want upset the wanted inverts
hmm, could be a good way for me to get rid of my hydras, but I owuld have to move my loaches out of the tank again. Never thought of them as a hydra eater but makes sense since I just recently took the snails out then saw the hydra explosion
