What is this on my gourami?
Hey guys, I have a gourami that has something odd on his side and fins. I'm talking about the lower one in the pic by the plant. It doesn't look like a normal cottony fungus, and it doesn't seem to be spreading to any of the other fish. It looks like accumulation of some kind of blue iridescent slime coat or something. Its really odd and I've never seen it before. It looks white in the pic I attached, but if he's under the light, its has a shiny blue appearance. Any ideas? At the pet store, he appeared fine, he was netted, brought home, and added to the tank. This appeared about 30 min after he was added, and has stayed now for about a week.
You didn't quarantine him, just added to your current tank/stock?
Yes.....and I even know better........:-?
I bought him from a trusted place here in town that always has very healthy fish. Its a real top notch fish shop. I called him, and he said none of the other fish in that tank have anything on them. Its really odd that its just him.
Maybe velvet? I can't think of anything else that sounds similar to what you described.
Isnt velvet contagious though? I would think all of the other fish would have it by now. And, like I said.....its like he just SUDDENLY got it. One minute he's find, 30 min later he has this all over him. Really odd.....
Yes it is. Can you watch him for a while and then post all other symptoms and behavior? Maybe we can help pin it down for you.
I'd also call the store you got him from and describe the symptoms - maybe they had an issue with the tank you got him out of that they didn't catch until later on.
He has no other symptoms. Swimming normal. Eating normal. And, I called the pet store again today. He said nothing ever developed on the other fish. It's so odd! Thanks for helping though!!!

Anyone else have an idea? I've noticed that fish gets picked on quite a bit......if that helps.
