Which species produces the most fry ?
There may not be a simple answer to this question but i thought it could be a trivia for you guys.
Which fish species (freshwater) produces the most fry in 1 spawn ?
Lets see what the answers are . . . . dont cheat and google it ;-)
it depends..... do the fry have to live?
Yes fully free swimming fry
No answers ?
I'd guess an egglayer of some sort. I saw somewhere that some catfish lay over 200 eggs - I don't remember if it was corydoras or otocinclus.
salmon? trout? maybe
See the reaosn someone asked whether they have to survive, is because fry are often eaten...
So, you mean in ideal considitions which will have the most spawn? (removing the eggs moments from being laid, placed in a devoted cycled tank, fed 3 times a day with BBD and Microworms, etc etc
Or which fish would produce the most on their own, left with the parents?
for the answer to the first, I've heard of a kind of sunfish. I googled it, but only because I remember what it looked like and wanted to post as picture of the ugliest fish in the world.
If you mean which one will produce the most fry in a typical fresh aquarium, I'd guess the fathead minnow or rosy red. (or other feeder fish.)
that thing is a real fish????
I'd say a live bearer of some sort like a guppy >> but that's just my experience
