Plants/Cichlids possiable? Could this be true? Is it possiable here are links to some very interesting articles I read today. I would love to have cichlids but I also love real plants in my aquariums. Plants 101 - Plants and African Cichlids Plants 101 - Plants and African Cichlids |
there is only one plant that I can think of that would be hearty enough to handle living with cichlids and that is the anubias. it is low growing and has a very thick, waxy leaf. |
Java ferns work too. Depends what kind of cichlid too, there was some pics of julidochromis transcriptus in with plants in the pics section. If you dont mind spending the few dollars to try plants then do it as trial and error, plants if it works and food if it doesnt. |
I am very tempted to try it to see how it goes both of the plants you guys suggest are on the list of the 102 link as well as I think 19 others. Maybe next tank I set up I will try it and see how it goes. Edit I just noticed I did not post a link to 102 so here it is in case your interested: http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/plants_102.php |
I have both Java Fern and Anubais with my shell dwellers, but they don't wreck things like Mbunas. I would think if you attached java fern to some lava rock it would work though. |
Thank you for your input. |
I have some amazon swords in my cichlid tank right now and they haven't torn them apart yet. I think that as long as your cichlids are not herbivores I think you have a good shot at keeping your plants alive. |
Thank Blabomb the ones I would like to keep are the electric yellow, cobalt blue, and red zebras. |
