How often do I feed my snail?

I'm not sure how often to give my Zebra Nerite snail an algae wafer. Any suggestions? I've heard the only need to be fed a few times a week. Is this true?

1-2 times a day. Once a day is fine but as nerites like their constant supply of algae, you may need to do it more than once.

Okay, thanks. I've been forced to cup him when I feed him because my Betta has decided he likes algae.

Do you only have one? Do you have algae naturally in your tank? I have lots (probably trillions of algae eating snails, MTS) and it takes them some time to eat like 5 wafers with natural algae in my aquarium. I would think that 1-2 a day would be fine if the snail is eating it. Seems like a lot for one snail but if you go with more hopefully you have another critter that will pick up what it doesn't eat. I also don't feed mine everyday unless I use algae wafers. When I use blanched veges I will leave them in until they are eaten then don't feed them for a few days. It will be easier to see once you have it long enough to see its eating patterns.

Hopefully you are more lucky than I. I cup my snails every water change so I don't mess up the tank right away. Mine won't eat at all. I don't think they like the new environment. Plus zebras can be grouchy little things.

It doesn't matter anymore, he died a few days ago. =(

Aw that's sad...sorry :(

Thanks. He probably was sick when I got him. He was the only snail in the tank that was alive at my LFS.

Yeah normally they put them with fish that peck at them and stress them out...or keep them in soft water.

Well, they only had the snails in the tank with plants. But it was a cold tank. We have pretty hard water in my area, too.
