I have a 55 mildly planted and with lava rock.
I currently have 6 bloodfin tetras, and 10 serpaes. I'm wanting to add two angels and/or gouramis. How well would this work? It's been set up about four months now and I haven't lost anything up to this point.
gouramis would be perfectly ok they only conflict would be bigger gouramis going after smaller ones and angels may eat your serpaes aftr a while and if theres two angels be prepared to loose all of your fish angels are very agressive in pairs 1 or 6+ is the best wat to go
That's what I figured. The Serpae's are quick, and they aren't especially nice themselves. I have 10 of them though, and they seem to be minding their own business being in a larger number. As far as the gouramis go, I'm contemplating 2 vs 3. I have an Opaline at the moment (he and the tetras are playing nice). I'm wanting to add a Gold and a blue-er Opaline, but could content myself to the opaline and gold. However... with three, there would be more room to spread out the aggression.
Mmm, fish. I had a 75 salt before starting college. Then I ran out of time, missed my fish, and am taking up freshwater again.
Angels shouldn't bother deep-bodied tetras. The only issue with the combo of angels and serpaes aside from the fact that the angels may harass them during breeding season is that serpaes are indeed notorious fin nippers.
Angels should work. Start with 4-6 juveniles and let them pair up as they mature if you wish to breed them in the near future. However, this will mean removal of the extras once two have paired up. Providing plenty of plants will help ensure the safety of the other inhabitants but I doubt any other singled out angels will be able to escape the aggression of a breeding pair.
Keep a watch on any of your new anabantids (gouramis in particular). They do not move very fast and with the serpaes around, they are likely to suffer with tattered fins.
Hah - the gourami I have is terrorizing the Serpaes.
