Female Guppy Problem
I know female guppies give birth every month or so,but thats not my case.Sometimes my females have fry in two weeks. Other times its two months! I can't save my fry because they could be born any time. Is there a way I can stop this?
Leave the fry to fend for themselves. The others will eventually eat them up. There's no other way to stop them from reproducing once they start. Just hire a few fish that could help consume the fry.
The problem is that I want to keep my fry so I can start a new strain.
Guppies are called 'millions fish' for a reason. If you add plants to the tank (either real or fake) and add a dark substrate (ideally a mixed bag of browns, blacks, and reds) and feed the tank daily you'll have more fish than you know what to do with in a couple months.
I started with 3 guppies a little over a year ago, and now have given away about 50, and have a chronically overstocked 10 gallon with over 80 guppies in it. (water parameters are fine, but kids, don't try this at home. I've been keeping fish for over a decade.)
Once the density got that high, I started fasting the fish two days a week so they'd slow down reproduction and hunt down their young. My tanks are all well planted, and that's my show tank.
I have about 11 guppies in my 20 gallon tank. I do have some dark gravel, and I have 2 tanks to keep my fry in.
Yeah, I regularly have to take big batches of Guppies to the fish store because they reproduce so fast. I never scoop out the fry, they live and grow up happily in the tank. I do separate the boys out as soon as I notice they are boys. They get to grow up in the Gourami tank. I was originally hoping she would eat them but nope. I just scoop them out as they get big enough for re-homing and take a batch of them to the store. I too have a moderate to heavily planted tank.
again with the plants, I to have a moderately planted tank but have a abf and he eats the babies like it is his soul purpose... currently I have 2 left and the are starting to show yellow
I have a lot of hiding places, and I am starting another tank for my females. I hope this works!
