I have a 55 gallon tank with a Whisper 60 Gallon filter i was thinking about getting another one to put on the other side of my tank. What should i do?? or does it matter?
Not really knowing what the whisper filter is, you can never over filter.
I have two and so far have had nothing but positive results. Creates a fantastic amount of surface agitation.
yeah definitely put another filter on there. In my personal opinion, the whisper 60 is not enough filtration and will not cause enough circulation in the tank. I would go with a little higher level of a vilter though, maybe one of the Penguin filters by marineland. They are usually only a few bucks more than the whispers and a lot better designed. Not sure if anyone told you this or not but when you change the whisper cartridges in the 60, do not change them both at the same time. Try to stagger them because alot of bacteria grows on those bio bags and if you can stagger the times you change them, you will minimize bacteria loss.
i found out the hard way about not changing both filters at the same time and it forced my tank into a mini cycle for a little while....wish someone had told me
yeah, the old whisper filters especially did not have the new black sponges in front of the bio bags. Within the last few years they added these black sponges as a place for bacteria to grow. Unfortunately a lot of the older Whisper kits have the old filters and people are still getting them.
