I went to Petco in my area that carries more tropical fish them most Petcos. They always have new types of fish. I bought 3 Red X-Ray Tetras. I only got 3 to put in my 6 gal. tank with the Crystal red shrimps. You can see right thu them. They were only $1.79 each.

They look really neat! Tetra prefer groups of at least 6, so I'd recomend going back to the lfs and see if they still have some more. Without a proper size group, the tetra will not feel secure, and will not live nearly as long. It also sets the stage for some bad diesases. Hope this helps!:-)

Kinda creepy looking fish, Eileen. ;-)
Do you think when they get bigger they will eat the shrimps? They look like pretty small fish at the moment.

Oh yeah. That might be an issue in the future. I have a a ghost shrimp in with a small school of lemon tetra (biggest are full grown at 1 1/2") and they have never bothered the little guy. But Ghost shrimp are relatively big for fw shrimp.

I have another tank I can put them in like a 10 gal. I would have got more but my 6 gal. tank has 2 horned nerite snails, 6 crystal red shrimps and I did not want to put to many in that tank. I had nothing swimming in the middle. My Crystal red shrimps are all big so I do not think it is a problem. I do not think they will breed like the Red Cherry shrimps. I have a bunch on tiny babies from the red cherry shrimps decendents of yours Kymmie. I just wanted to try these out to see how they would do. I used to have 3 harlequen rasboras in that tank that did very well. They got rehomed awhile ago when they were in my 55 gal. tank. I get tired of certain fish and change them out now and then. Instead of getting new tanks. I just rehome them at my fish club or craigslist. I only have 5 tanks and 2 QT tanks if needed for baby fish.

Don't let your husband read about how you tire of things, he may think you're going to try to rehome him! lol.

I'm glad the RCS I gave you had babies. :-)
You'll have to let me know how your crystal reds do for you. I've stayed away from them as I always read and hear about how fussy they are as far as water parameters. You and I have the same water supply so if they do well for you maybe I'll look into getting some too. I saw them down at Ron's last week and they are sooo cute.

What? You never gave me any fish? What's up with that? I want fish. Can I have fish?

Kymmie, I was afraid to try those Crystal red shrimps also. I like the Black & White Crystal shrimps. I shipped some fish to this person I bought fish from in San Franisco and he sent me some Blue Tiger endlers and included 6 Red Crystal Red shrimps in the box to fill it. He did not even charge me for them as we trade fish or he takes some of the fry that are born from my fish.

I was really surprised that none have died. I did lower my PH. I have a RO system in my Kitchen for drinking water. We bought it at Costco. It does 5 gals. at day. I took some water out of my 6 gal. and used RO treated water for the water that I took out about 25%. I had endlers in but all died except 1 rehomed one back to that guy in San Francisco on Monday along with fish I bought for him at Aquatic Warehouse. When the water gets low or I do 20% water chance I use 1/2 RO water with 1/2 outside water in a gal. jug. I also have a water softner for the whole house. That makes keeping the Crystal shrimps easier. The red Crystals were $4.99 each at Aquatic Warehouse. I did find a guy on craigslist that had them for $3 each with 10. Minimum and larger shrimps for $1 & $2 The grade is A. I have his e-mail if you PM me later.

Ah, it's the RO water that's making it a snap for you to keep them. No RO here at my house so I know I can't keep them. What did you pay for that RO system?? Have the crystals bred for you yet??
