Looking for small fish that prefer top level of tank I am getting closer to finally purchasing some fish as my 29 gallon planted tank is almost cycled! I am trying to choose a species of microrasbora or boraras, as well as some dwarf loaches. I figure I have the middle and bottom levels of the tank covered, but I can't figure out what small fish (1"-2") to get for the topmost level. I want a good community fish that isn't going to try and eat the smaller schooling fish! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I have no idea where to go from here! Sarah |

I would suggest hatchet fish as well. If you do decide to go with them I would recommend putting a floating plant in your tank so they feel safe. Goodluck |
check out rasbora espei. I have 11 in my 45 gallon planted. They are beautiful i probably have a picture of mine on my aquarium tab under my name. They stay at the top and are very greedy eaters, but beautifully colored. They actively swim when i watch my tank, and get along great with my cardinal tetras, and all loaches and shrimps and all fish that i've kept(a fair number). |

You will probably find that your Boraras fish remain at the top. Mine certainly do, for more than a year. And they need floating plants as much as hatchetfish. If you get hatchets, stay with the Carnegiella species (those in the other genera are too large), there are three and all are included in our profiles: Carnegiella marthae, Carnegiella myersi and Carnegiella strigata.
