Pass out the cigars!!!!!
It has been 20 years since I had fish tanks in my bedroom and now I have one 5 gallon I started for my son in my family room. Yesterday I asked a thread on here about when I should put my preggo female guppy in a breeder. You all said no because it would stress her out. So I didn't. Tonight I just turned the light on(my kids usually turn it on in the morning) and I was greeted by my 3 guppies and a about 15-20 babies!!!!!!!! :welldone::greenyay::blueyay::cheers:

Now........what do I do with them?!?! I can't catch the little buggers because they go through my net and they are FAST!!!!!!

I cannot get another tank so thats out. Wife doesn't quite like this one.

What to do.

Well is you were trying to catch them I have a suggestion (though I don't know what you'd do with them afterwards besides put them in a plastic bag) you can dip a small butter container (empty of course or a clean rubber maid container)into the water and scoop them up with some of the aquarium water. >> I don't know what you'll do with them, often your LFS will take them for credit or just take them off your hands. Not one of the big chains though like Petco or Petsmart

OH and CONGRATS *throws confetti*

I would put the babies in the breeder, and keep that in the tank. make sure you keep it anchored to the side, or it could drift away or flip, like mine did once. It flipped, and alll the babies were eaten. but, the second time it worked, and they all survived to adulthood :D

Also, could you get a smaller net? I know what you mean, they can fit through the holes, but ive got a net for my 5gal with tiny holes, so it works. or, you can use the container idea :)

Best tactical approach is to install the new tank while wife is gone. Once you ask for permission it's checkmate. If you just do it and apologize a little, you win.

Don't go small. Get at least a 30 gallon. Mama guppy can live in there with a few other small fish and maybe some plants. I made small upgrades and now have too many tanks all over the place. You know you want more, so get your hands wet! Bigger, better, faster, more!

As for this batch, a good way to get a few choice survivors is to put a nice wad of java moss into the tank in which the fry can hide. Many will get eaten, but what else are you going to do with 30 inbred, weak guppies? Or was this wild stock?

I have a way and it worked great if you dont want to go out and buy a new tank or breeder box.

What i did with my first lot of platies that came unexpectedly a week after i bought her, i cut a 1.25L coke bottle in half and used that.
Cut it in half, wash it, cut a few small slices in it for some airing around the sides, cut a circle up the top so you can tie something to a piece of cord and hang it over the side of your tank with the bottle floating on top next to the glass.
I put a few little pieces of plant ends in with the fry in the floating bottle just so they know they have cover and can get used to it before you put them in the tank.

Once you have this set up the babies will start polluting the water with their poops and leftover food so you will need to change the water every couple of days. To do this all i did was take out the plants (if you decide to put any in) and make sure you can see the fry so you dont tip any out, and just pour the water back into the tank. when most of the water is out you then either move the bottle to a different part of the tank or wait for the stuff you tipped out to drop to the bottom.
then to refill the bottle just tilt it at the top of the water and have a stream of water coming over the edge, whatever bits of poop and food that was left in the bottle will get splashed around and you can pour it out again and refill till you have nice clean water again.

I attached some pictures so you can see my invention :-) haha

Just leave a few thickets of plants, let them breed and grow the obvious survivors. They were not called "million fish" for nothing. Keep breeding and saving them, and you'll really really regret it. I did the same and that was one of my greatest regrets.

I agree with lupin on this one and plus you will have a strong strain of guppies and all will be happy, no new tank, no arguing
