How long to keep the new filter and old running

So I just set up my new 55 gallon tank and am using the old 29 gallon filter that I had running on that tank. I have set up both the 29 and the 55 filters running at the same time. When should it be safe for me to remove the 29 gallon and not have to worry about the bacteria and such in the new filter? I used all the old decorations as well as some new. The 29 was up and running and fully cycled.

A month to be safe. Can you just keep both filters on? Over filtered is not exactly a bad thing.

Exactly. I'd just run both filters. In case one malfunctions, the other will still continue to work thus preventing water quality crash.

I completely tore down the 29 and moved its contents over. I can most definitely keep it running...thanks for the tips.

Good plan, and if you ever decide to set up the 29 again you will be all set with a cycled filter. On my 55 gallon I have 2 HOB filters, a whisper 60 full of biomax and an emperor 400.
