Silver Dollar Fungus?

Hello all, I've been away for a while but am back on the forums regularly now. I have a school of 5 Silver Dollars (M. argenteus) They've developed a white coating almost that I'd guess is some sort of fungus twice now. Dosing with Melafix/Pimafix takes care of it in around 3 days though I continue to dose for 5. It seems to affect the fins both dorsal and tail and all of the body. I can't quite tell but is this fish scaleless and therefore more susceptible to fungi? They've grown at an amazing rate in my tank so I'm not quite certain what is stressing them out or making them vulnerable. Thanks for your time.

Actually, rather than delete your post, tell us what it was so we can all learn! :-)

Doubt it was true fungus. True fungal infections are very rare.

Well I'm no fish doctor but what they have certainly is not ich. And what it is isn't important I suppose because the medication is working.

Actually, diagnosing the actual issue is quite important otherwise, how else will you prevent it if it happens again? And white patches simply doesn't mean it's a guess between ich and fungus. I know that is NOT ich however, I do not think it is fungus either. Columnaris, costia, glossatella, tetrahymena, velvet and childonella also exhibit white patches.

The fish in question are actually on their way out of the aquarium after treatment. They're being traded. But maybe with your help we could figure it out
