Background mounting methods
I'm not sure this falls under "equipment", but does anyone have a suggestion regarding the best way to mount an aquarium background on a tank? I have a background (off the roll from Petco) and I used a product called "SeaClear" to mount it. The seaClear looks like some type of jellied water/oil product and worked well for about a month. Now, I'm getting a seep of the SeaClear down the legs of my stand and my background is starting to separate from the glass / slowly rolling at the edges on all four sides.
Any suggestions or recommendations are appreciated?
I use non-stick cooking spray (like Pam) and it works wonderful! Some of my tanks have been up and running for a couple of years and its still holding strong no slideing or running or anything like that. Just spray it on the background then rub the bubbles out with a credit card and thats it.
Thanks, I'll try that. The oil doesn't go rancid over time?
Also, off the topic - any good LFS in Asheville? Spartanburg doesn't seem to have a good one, other than Petco/PetSmart....
I use white petroleum Jelly and tape the edges. Smear the Jelly on the glass and spread it under the plastic with a debit card or something then tape the edges with clear tape
Nope it does not go rancid. We have two really good LFS one is Asheville Aquarium and the other is Mountains to Sea one is off Patton Ave and the other is on Sweeten Creek Rd. If you would like to come visit Asheville sometime I would be happy to show them to you.
