seen gravid spots on an Endler for 1 - 2 weeks, keep her in the comm tank?
From what I've read online, when the gravid spots appear she is getting close. I am seeing the gravid spots come and go everyday for over a week. Is this normal? Figured I'd post some pics of her for grins. I put some small tight plants along the back for the babies to go for cover. I hear female livebearers sometimes do eat their young and moving her into the breeders net might stress her out and give her more reason to snack on her little ones. Her behavior: usually swimming around with the male in tow or staying in one spot at the bottom, never turns down food and doesn't seem to be bothered by other fish. never seen her go for privacy. tank size is 30 x 18, 24 high. 5 cories, 3 upside down catfish, 2 cherry shrimp, 4 otos, 1 male endler, 1 white cloud. The white cloud was micro sized in the tank a few weeks ago and he was social and didn't get eaten.
can u post a pick of the area that u built for the babies ive had alot of experience in breeding livebearers so get some breeding grass and get some tall leafy plastic plants and maybe a leafy live plant to add and bunch them close but give the live plant some space
She looks pretty close, not quite there. If you have a spare 10gal or so, fill it with plants and a sponge filter and put her there if you like. If you would rather just fill her area with plants, that would work too. Do whatever you feel more comfortable with.
Yes,all fish will eat their young, breeding nets will sometimes stress them. If I wasnt planning on her having them and she gives birth I will put my female in while she has them and scoop them out as the are being born.
The catfish will eat the babies almost as soon as they are out.
Just keep an eye on her. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!
