My husband was off yesterday and I had to work, so he surprised me by buying two gouramis and another albino cory for my tank. It was a lovely idea and they are just the fish I wanted, but I intended to have my water tested and do a partial water change before getting more fish. Also, we only got out first permanent fish five days ago. Now I am thinking perhaps I had better wait to do the water change, so as not to stress the new fish?

The new albino cory and the old one bonded instantly. It is as though they remember each other from the tank at the fish store and are so happy to see each other; is this possible? Not sure how much emotional lives fish have.

Since you're not sure if your tank can handle the bioload, I would do the water change, and do one every day (20-30%) for a week or two.

Ph shifts can cause problems, but an ammonia spike can kill your fish overnight... I'd worry more about the ammonia from adding too many fish too soon. ;-)
