What Filter do you use?
 

OK so after browsing different threads there are lots of opinions on best HOB filter types. I run two filters the primary is the aquaclear the other is aqueon. I will be using the primary filter for the poll. I also put in other filter types just to see.

What filter do you prefer / Use?

I use canisters for most of my tanks. Only the quarantine tanks and 10 gallon have HOBs

The HOBs I use and USED to use are Aquaclears.

Would a canister be overkill for a 20g tank?

I have a HOB aqueon 55 quietflow and an in tank 40i whisper filter on either end of my 55g. Seems to be going good as of right now.

I have an AquaClear 500, Marineland Penguin 350 Bio Wheels and Whisper filters. I prefer the Biowheel to the Aquaclear only because it is easier to access the filter media. The Aquaclear I have to pull out the whole tray and the biobags to get to the sponge at the bottom in order to rinse it. Kind of a pain and it gets water all over. The Penguins are easier to get to the sponges/media cartridges without having to move anything out of the way.

Depend on the strenght of the filter for the 20g Maybe a rena xp1. I absolutely love rena as a brand. I have a 38 and the water is clear as a diamond

Well I swapped out my aqueon filter as in less than a week water would bypass the filter... Having to wash it every other day was not working for me. I am running aquaclear 50 and a bio wheel 150.. I know its overkill for a 20g lol

I have a 29g planted tank and have a Aqua Clear 50 and Ehiem 2213. LOVE my 2213 so quiet!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a fluval 305 canister on my 45 gallon, and a aquaclear HOB on my 29 gallon. I much prefer the canister. I've been through 2 of the aquaclear HOB in the last 3 years.

Anything but a HOB for me.
