Am I being lied to?
Hey folks. I'd like to know about blue lobsters if you would be so kind. One of my LFS's have these up for sale, as i think they are really interesting. When i asked the man there he swore on his mother's soul that they are scavengers and would not attack my fish, as long as i kept them well fed with bloodworms. Is this true, of have a got me a soul to claim? It would be in with a plec (5"), 2 angels and hopefully a shoal of 5-6 corys (which worries me as they are bottom feeders like the lobster...) plus whatever else cathes my eye and is suitable for a 30 g tank with the rest of them. I really like them, and would definately like one in my tank, i just don't wan't to be responsible for a massacre!
Well if you can manage to keep the crawfish absolutely full and make sure it is never hungry your fish might be fine. I would bet that regardless of what you try it is going to take a chunk out of whatever fish it can catch. And they are faster and better at hunting fish than you might think.
I did see in a post here I think that you can gently cut their claws off to make them a little more harmless so if you really have to get one that might be an option. It would keep it from grabbing a fish long enough to harm it much but it does seem a little cruel to me.
If the LFS person is so adamanat, have them put it in writing so if anything happens they have to replace the fish that the lobster eats.
Right. Might give it a miss, i don't want to get my fish hurt, but i also don't wan't to cut his arm off, that sounds pretty nasty! thanks!

This info came from:
As far as I know they hide, and then ambush fish as they swim by, or sleep at night.
It's not something I would try unfortunately, as they are quite interesting looking.
Crayfish are something you wouldn't want with your fish. That man is claiming rubbish.
You are being lied to. Though I am sure that they would call it marketing. :?
Ahh, Marketing - no-one is lying in selling business surely...
I still like these dudes, even if they will kill fish for fun and frolics. If i were to set up a species tank for them, what's the best way to go about it, and what, if anything can go with them, because as interesting as they are i'm not sure i could justify a tank with just a couple of lobsters in it to myself. (let alone my housemate!)
Crayfish are teritorial so you don;t want more than 1 per square foot of tank surface. You'll also want to avoid plants as the crayfish are pretty destructive on plants. Rocks are pretty good, though if you put fish in the tank, you'll want to be very careful about setting up the rocks as the crayfish like to ambush fish.
Seen some of these at my lfs. There were four and two were fighting quite aggressively. So much so that the other two kept scurrying to the other side of the tank whenever the struggle neared them.
