65 G - Blood Red Parrot Questions

Hello :-)

I have a 65 gallon tank and would like to keep Blood Red Parrots in it. I have a couple questions though and need some help. So, here are my questions:

- How many BRP's should I keep in the tank?

- Can I keep any other fish along with BRP's? If yes, then I plan to keep 2 BRP's and a a few of the other fish. If I can't keep other fishes, then I'll only keep BRP's.

Tank Details:

Tank Size: 36" (L) X 24" (W) X 18" (H)
Capacity: 65 Gallons
Filtration: 2 X Internal Power Filters @ 1200 L/H (each)
Heaters: 2 X 100 Watts Thermostats
Substrate: River Sand
Decorations: Clay Pots, Medium-Rocks, Driftwood

Thanks and Regards,
Tintin

Hey, yeah I like BPs too and have kept them in past - interesting hybrids.

I've found them to be very individual, while one BP will get along with all the other fish in the tank even smaller ones than themselves others will ram their tankmates (the former are more common though in my experience). A good bet is keeping them with other larger New World cichlids.

They get pretty big, possibly 10" and that's a solid 10" due to their deep bodies. With 2 in a 65 I might just get maybe a severum. A jack might be too aggressive for them.

Many thanks for your reply Jim! :-)

I will get 2 BRP's then along with maybe one other fish like a Severum. I just hope my BRP's are not to aggressive towards the other tankmate.

They do seem to get along with severums, many think severums are one of the contributing species to the BP hybrid.

How about I keep one BRP and one Albino Oscar? Will that work?

In a word, No.
Oscar alone, would require minimum 75 gal tank with a filter capable of filtering eight to ten times the volume of water the tank holds each hour.
Would stick with the severum and two blood parrots were it me.

Thanks guys for all the help :-)

There is one problem, Severums are pretty hard to get here. What are my other options besides the 2 BRP's?

Yeah, hard to find here too, especially the right size.

Likely any fish needing the same water parameters of comparable size and temperament.
