Angel Station - Planning out an Angelfish centered community
I recently got an excellent deal on a 110 High tank, 48x18x30", and I have been working out and angelfish centered community to go in it.
Starting with Aquascape: One very large hunk of driftwood (the kind with holes drilled in it). Center rear (comes nearly to the top of the tank). Attached java fern.
Slate planters for the corners. These will have several cave compartments beneath, and a 2" deep bed of flourite & black gravel on top. Both will be planted with Jungle Vals and one will have a lotus in it.
Between the planters, Mixed Eco-Complete and all purpose sand. Planted along the back with Cabomba with pennywort mixed in, sword plants in front, larger toward the tank center, smaller to the sides (Near the planters). I'll put some boiled leaves in the foreground, and encourage java moss to grow to the sides.
Filtration will be a Magnum 350 (I think) and an Eheim 2217 (or 2028)
Lighting is a 260 watt JBJ CF fixture. Heating is 2x150 watt stealth. May or may not include a UV sterilizer and a protein skimmer.
For the fish -
Starting off with 1 male and 2 female platies to get cycling started (I know - it will take more - I may add 2 dozen feeder guppies too). Next add a banjo cat to keep the sand stirred. Then 2 Albino Bristlenosed plecos and a large male Bristlensed pleco (May trade him out for a gold nugget or something else - in which case it will be when the tank is 100% stable). Let that calm down for a while, then add 5 Brown Hoplos (or maybe flag tailed Porthole cats or Callicthys callicthys if I can get them)
Then, a shoal of 8 Diamond Tetras.
Then - 8 small silver or half black angelfish. The thought is to let them pair off and return 4 of them as they grow.
After the tank has been stable with all of that for 6 months, add 8 hatchetfish (I'll make sure the lid is tight), and any alternate Pleco.
What say you? Think it will work OK? I'm open to alternatives so long as I can keep the Angels.
(Mods - may be this ought to go in the top level of Species & compatibility or Starting & maintaining. Now worries if you'd like to move it.)
what say Me...............
sounds fab . :)
and can't wait to see it in real life,
will you do a step by step picture diary by any chance ?
Could happen. I've been poking this idea around for about 8 months and finally got the tank. I've got the lights and one of the filters. I need to get a lid, the heaters, and another filter. Also, I need to clear the space where it will go, which means clearing the space that the tank which it will replace will go, which means moving 2 20's and a 5.5, then clearing and moving a 55. So I think this will really start coming together in August or early September.
I'll definitely think about a photo diary, and, if I do, I'll just tank it on here.
You'll have to keep pictures of the progress. :) I've got java fern in my tank that I plan to put angelfish in. I love the plant, it just grows way too slow.
Re: Angel Station - Planning out an Angelfish centered commu
Stocking seems alright. I'd love to see your hoplos and banjos.
