Seeding new tank with mature tank media
 

Hey guys,

I was wondering what the best method would be to seed a new tank with media from an already mature tank .

Can I just place an extra sponge in the mature tanks filter, then take it out...say...a week later and place it in my new tanks filter?

Any other ideas?

If it's the same type of filter (takes the same media) then yes. Just slip some mature media from your first filter into the new one. I'd leave it for a bit longer than a week, but you have the right idea. If they're not the same kind of filter, even just putting the old media into a mesh bag or some such and floating it will help you greatly.
