how do I siphon gravel on a heavily planted tank?
Newbie question here. I have a 36G tank, and I have recently heavily populated it with plants all over the gravel bed. my question is, what do I do during water changes now? do I still try and siphon the gravel and risk disturbing the roots? Or should I arrange my plants so that I intentionally leave areas of gravel clear so that I can siphon?
Or do I just run the siphon over on top of the gravel trying to minimize disturbances to plants and not dig into the gravel? Would that leave too much junk stuck in the gravel causing bad things?
Thanks in advance,
You don't gravel vac, just drain water and refill.
the gunk in the gravel is bad in a non-planted tank, but in a planted tank it's fertiliser.
Don't worry about vacuuming within a few inches of your rooted or stem plants... If you have wide open areas, vac them only.
I never vac mine.
Thanks for the response, guys. This makes water changes even easier! I like that!
