I'm getting a 10 gallon tank which will house 1 black moor and 1 blue shubunkin.
Any ideas what plants i should/shouldn't get for this set up? :)
That tanks really not big enough in my opinion... Even the black moor would probably need more space than a 10g.
If you can get a bigger tank you're going to need to limit yourself to fast-growing cheap species, since your fish will nibble on them...
Hornwort, Duckweed, Anarchis, Java Fern, and Java Moss come to mind...
Which one sort of acts like a biofilter?
I agree with redchigh, a 10g is too small for any goldfish.
On the plant/filter question, all plants act as filters. They assimilate ammonium (from ammonia) as their source of nitrogen. But they also take up toxins like heavy metals. And "crud" that only a water change can otherwise handle. But to do this effectively on their own, the plants must be numerous and the fish load minimal.
