What Invertebrates to keep in Planted community tank?
I have a 28 gal tank and keep a number of tetras, guppies etc. I was wondering if i could keep some (if any) invertebrates in their such as shrimp or crabs. It would be better if they were low maintenance and cleaned the tank.
Any help would be much appreciated! :-D
Nerite snails eat algae and leave your plants alone. I have two and I really like them.
Thanks, do you know of any shrimp etc that could go in? cause they look really cool :-D
What are the pH and hardness levels? You can't keep snails in acidic water or the shells will quickly erode killing them in the process.
I haven't got anything in the tank yet just setting up still :-)
I say ghost shrimp, they are sold as feeder so they are really cheap, like 33 cents around here. They are fun to watch and will eat food that hits the ground or dead leaves, I like watching them eat flakes cause you can see their insides since they are clear. I think they are social so get a few, not like itll break the bank.
I wouldnt go with crabs for 2 reasons. 1 they are semi aquatic and will need some land to roam around on. 2 my dad had a couple years ago and they somehow got out of the tank and were walking around the house, and its very gross when you are walking around and step on it...
Unless you set up like a ramp or something for the crab to get some air and have a lid with no openings go with the ghost shirmp, they are super cheap they clean up and the worst that could happen is your fish eat them.
