Hi everyone I have a question for you all.

what is the maximum amount of mass/volume that a tank can hold?

I have a 20 gallon tank. If you add the weight of the water plus the substrate plus the decorations plus filters and equipment and everything it equals to about 230 pounds maybe more. Now I understand that you cant know the limit until you've reached it so Im counting on someone that may have reached it even though I hope that never has happend to anyone. Its a tragedy.

kind of reminds me of the time when the admiral gave the command to make a dive that was greater than the maximum depth the submarine can reach..fortunately they went under the radar undetected...

unfortunately it was an undetected chamber of death.:shake:

I know thats unrelated but just wanted to share it

It doesn't matter. Every decoration, gravel, and piece of equipment in a tank displaces water, and water, on average at least, is probably the heaviest thing per volume in an aquarium. Completely fill any tank with water only and weigh it and that should be the minimum weight it can hold. Most everything else you add will probably make the tank lighter.

At least that is how I always accepted it.
